Słoneczny Młyn is the only four-star hotel located on the Brda River in Bydgoszcz, which was created by adapting a 19th-century grain mill for service purpose.
The interior design of the hotel refers to the style of interior design from the beginning of the 20th century. So there are Art Nouveau elements and Art Deco details here.
Hotel Słoneczny Młyn was built on the site of the Kentzer Mill llocated at Jagiellońska 96 street in Bydgoszcz (formerly Promenada 36 street).
The mill was built in 1862 by Partners Ludwik Wolfen and Meyer Fliess. Due to low power and low employment, the mill worked until 1980.
iIn 1892, the mill was taken over by the company of Willi and Moritz Baerwald. First, there is reconstruction and modernization, the facility was practically built from scratch.
After the reconstruction, the capacity of the mill increased to 20 tons of rye and wheat milling per day, employing 14-15 people.
IIn 1898, some automation of work takes place and production increases to 30 tons of rye or wheat milling per day. The plant built a narrow-gauge railway from the mill to the bridge over the Brda, where barges were loaded and unloaded.
The mill of the Baerwald family was a steam-powered mill and, compared to the mills in Bydgoszcz, it was the most modern.
IIn 1938, the mill was bought by Bronisław Kentzer from Bydgoszcz, who ran it until 1939. From 1940 to 1945, the mill operated under managemenet of a German, Gustav Harmel.
After the war, the mill was taken over by the Społem cooperative, then for a short time the mill returned to the hands of Jan Kentzer.
In 1948 the mill was nationalized and fell into disrepair.
IIn 2009, the building was adapted into a four-star hotel Słoneczny Młyn.
